This roomy and classy spot (tablecloths, high ceilings) is just a few step away from Penn / Moynihan stations and good if not stellar choice. My hot and sour soup was underwhelming, but the chicken pepper offering was fantastic. Spicy, with succulent chicken morsels. I added the Chinese vegetables, well worth the slight uncharge. Portion was ample, and setting was quiet and comfortable. I'll be back.
I have been eating lunch here for years. The food is reasonably priced, consistent and very good. I do recommend for lunch, i have not had dinner but I assume it would be the same great food and service.
Food: never disappointed when we come here, usually post NYCC! Not pictured is an order of pork fried rice that's always good. I would not recommend the Lychee Martini, it had a lot of lychee chunks in it. Service: Our waiter always came to check on us, our water glasses were always filled, and he had a very pleasant attitude. Ambiance: The restaurant is clean and updated. The bathrooms are in good condition. I look forward to continuing this NYCC tradition with my friends for years to come.
Chef Yu always delivers a great experience. The waitstaff can sometimes rub me the wrong way, but the food is always good. Tonight, I arrived with a date around 6:30 and we had a pleasant evening, enjoying the food and each other. The decor of the restaurant is very nice with clean modern lines, with linen table cloths and clean bathrooms to boot. This is a very dateworthy Chinese or Cantonese restaurant with Americanized offerings and some very authentic offerings on its expansive menu. Tonight, I would order a few of the greatest hits, standbys if you will, but I have never had a miss when I order anything else. We started off with drinks. She had the Bahama Mama and I had the Mai Tai. Both very good and we were well within happy hour. I know the menu well and ordered the roast pork as an appetizer. It is a substantial appetizer served with rice, needing no soy sauce. The flavor is in the meat. Next came the entrees: Chinese broccoli sauteed with ginger and garlic; the pineapple fried rice with shrimp; and the spicy diced chicken made the way they used to make it years ago when I started coming here. Their broccoli is flash sauteed in the wok, leaving the stalks firm and not overcooking the leafy tops. The pineapple fried rice with shrimp is an excellent protein combo, as is pork, which I have ordered numerous times. It's always great and this time was no exception. Again, no soy sauce required. The spicy diced chicken made the old way with more chicken to pepper ratio was her favorite. The spicy diced chicken is the most popular menu item I believe and its tangy seasoning and crispy caramelized chicken cubes is mouth watering and offers great texture. Over the years, the newer chefs lean more heavily on the peppers, but, to the credit of my servers over recent years, they listen and bring this dish out as I knew it before. When I have forgotten to specify, it comes out with too many peppers, upsetting the balance of this dish. Tonight it was excellent and she immediately remarked how good it is; though, it was slightly salty for my tastes, but still eminently good. She felt it was not too salty. Time can slip by in a nice place like Chef You in contrast to the activity on the streets outside in this part of the City on Eighth Avenue not far from Port Authority. The conversation was great with my date and we were among the last to leave tonight. The servers were not intrusive until the end when they made it clear they wanted to clear our table. I have turned on many friends to Chef Yu after having been introduced to this place by a friend ten years ago. Enjoy Chef Yu with confidence it will deliver consistently and at a reasonable rate. Four stars!
10/10 for the purpose it best serves - a large corporate dinner with coworkers! I always end up in these types of restaurants for coworker lunches and it's super fun.
Food: 10 out of 10 all around the best food I had on my trip. Service: 10 out of 10. Our server was friendly, quick and very attentive to anything we needed. Location: located a few blocks away from the 42nd street crowd. Right across from Hilton doubletree hotel. Ambiance: upscale cuisine dinning. Low image lighting. Great place to gather with family and friends. Price: several appetizers, three entrées, four cocktail drinks. Total was under $150.
I met my big homie here as he said their lunch special was a quick meal and a potential inflation buster. Nothing gets me out of bed like a potential inflation buster... Chef Yu is like a Chinese version of Buca Di Beppo. A big space with ample room and huge portion sizes at decent prices, but just straight Americanized... they don't even give you chopsticks ahahahaa. But Buca Di Beppo does have its time and place lowkey...they don't wanna have that conversation though. The menu was huge, but I went straight to the lunch specials as you know why I'm here. I got the spicy diced chicken, and I swear to god it came in under 5 minutes from the time the words "spicy diced chicken please" left my carmex filled lips. It came a little too quick (haha) as now I am fully aware that they have a big pot of that chicken on simmer in the back and just go and scoop it out, or they just throw it in the microwave and bring it right out to you. They should have just waited 10 min and I wouldn't have batted an eye. However at $11.95 and a portion big enough for 2, this EASILY qualifies as an inflation buster. The mix of chicken, white rice, and vegetables was honestly pretty damn good I can't even lie. It didn't have me feeling like I was going to die after like some americanized chinese food does. I ate the whole thing because the chicken did SLAP, and when you from where I'm from you don't leave food on the plate. I'm also just an animal and built different so please don't beat yourself up if you can't finish it... Another reviewer said "the food is like an upscale Panda Express," and I couldn't agree more. Nice comparison Emily C, keep doing you we see you workin! Call it in. Tell the good people. Inflation is in TROUBLE. Chef Yu's lunch special is on its head!!!!! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
